How it works

Charities of Hope BoxWe at Charities of Hope felt it was time to educate people who might make a clothing/shoe donation as to what actually happens to the clothes they drop off. Most importantly, who benefits from their donation.

With some charities and so-called "non-profits", it's difficult to really know where your charitable donation is going@ Charities of Hope has taken the guess work out of it. We support many different causes, and many different charities in two ways. The first, is to donate profits, after operating expenses, from the sale of donated bins on their property. Instead of a monthly rent check made out to the landowner, we make the payment out to a charity/cause of the landowner's choice. The check is mailed to the landowner so that they can both see it, and forward it to the proper organization. There are, however, some locations where we have to pay rent directly to the landowner.

DID YOU KNOW? Clothing donation bins have received a lot of bad publicity in the past few years. Organizations claiming to be charities were merely hiding behind their names. A January 6, 2004 press release from Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and Consumer Protection Commissioner Edwin R. Rodriguez outlines the situation. You can view this press release and others at the Attorney General's web page. There are also many articles in The Hartford Courant archives. To this day, there are still organizations operating for profit while at the same time misleading the public.

Wondering where your clothes and shoes end up? See JOHN'S DREAM

Please... before you donate any clothing and/or shoes, look into the name on the bin. Make sure your good intentions are going to agood causes! A simple telephone call to the Attorney General's "Public Charity Unit" will let you know if a company is either non-profit or for profit.
If you have any questions, or know a property owner willing to "rent" us some space, give us a call at 1-877-632-7430. hopefully we can ALL work together to help those in need.
